Art and Design Intent Statement

Art is to develop artistic skills and express creativity in a variety of ways.

At St Joseph's, children learn the skills of drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, sculpture and digital art to enable them to produce their own pieces using a wide variety of media and techniques. Children are expected to be reflective and evaluate their work, thinking about how they can make changes and improve further. Children are encouraged to take risks to produce creative work through which they explore and express their own ideas, feelings and experiences. 

They will also learn how to interpret and appreciate the work of famous artists to enhance their learning through exploring a range of different styles and techniques.  Children’s artwork is celebrated through a range of high quality cross curricular displays around the school.
