French Intent Statement

Learning French is to communicate in spoken and written word and appreciate key features of French culture.

At St Joseph's, our French lessons are provided by a language specialist, Lingotot Dartford, from Years 2 - 6.  The methodology enables children to express their ideas and thoughts confidently in another language, and to understand and respond to its speakers.  The Programme of Study follows the 4 pillars of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, ensuring that the children have an understanding of French phonics, and basic grammar. 

Learning a language provides opportunities for the children to communicate for practical purposes and learn new ways of thinking. French provides the foundation for learning further languages, leading to opportunities such as studying and working in other countries.
